Dehumidifiers for Cold Store Loading Docks

Where warm, humid air meets cold-store doors you get ice, condensation and slippery floors. Here's what a dehumidifier can and can't do — and when you need desiccant.

Target band50–60% RH

Cold stores in Pakistan face a constant battle at the door. Every time a door opens, warm, humid outside air rushes toward the cold zone. The moisture in it condenses on cold surfaces, freezes on door tracks and evaporator coils, and drips onto stock and floors at the threshold.

Controlling humidity is the fix — but the right technology depends on the temperature of the space you're treating.

What goes wrong when humidity is too high

  • Ice forming on door tracks, seals and evaporator coils
  • Condensation dripping onto stock at the door threshold
  • Slippery, hazardous floors at the loading dock
  • Faster door-seal wear from repeated ice and thaw
  • More defrost cycles and higher energy use in the cold store

Dehumidifiers we’d suggest for cold store loading docks

A starting point, not a sizing promise — the right model depends on your space. Try the size calculator or send us the details and we’ll recommend one.

Refrigerant or desiccant? It depends on the temperature

Refrigerant dehumidifiers — the kind DryKing makes — work well in spaces at normal ambient temperatures, roughly 15°C and above. That makes them a good fit for loading docks, dispatch areas, packing halls and ambient corridors outside the cold rooms, where humid air builds up before it reaches the cold-store doors.

Inside chilled anterooms, cold rooms and freezer areas, it's a different story. Below about 15°C, refrigerant units lose much of their effectiveness, and near freezing they stop working properly. Those spaces need a desiccant dehumidifier. We'd rather tell you that honestly than sell you a unit that won't perform — contact us with the temperature of your space and we'll suggest a suitable desiccant option.

Why 50–60% RH in ambient dock areas

Keeping loading docks and dispatch areas around 50–60% RH means the air reaching the cold-store doors carries less moisture, which cuts ice build-up on door seals and coils and reduces condensation at the threshold.

Choosing the right dehumidifier for a loading dock

What matters most:

  • The temperature of the area — ambient (refrigerant is fine) or chilled (desiccant needed)
  • The size of the dock and how often doors open
  • Whether there are air curtains or strip curtains at the cold-store doors
  • Whether the dock is enclosed or open to the outside

Industrial units with a direct drain suit most enclosed dock and dispatch areas. Send us your layout and temperatures and we'll recommend the right approach.

Dehumidifiers for cold store loading docks: common questions

Can a DryKing dehumidifier go inside a cold room or chilled anteroom?

No. Below about 15°C refrigerant dehumidifiers lose effectiveness, and cold rooms and chilled anterooms need a desiccant dehumidifier. Contact us with the temperature and we'll suggest a suitable desiccant option.

Where does a refrigerant dehumidifier help in a cold store?

In the ambient areas around it — loading docks, dispatch halls, packing areas and corridors. Drying the air there means less moisture reaches the cold-store doors, which reduces ice and condensation.

Why is there ice on our cold-store door and coils?

Humid air entering when the door opens freezes on the coldest surfaces. Lowering the humidity of the air around the door — and keeping door-open time short — reduces it.

Do you sell desiccant dehumidifiers?

Our current range is refrigerant. For jobs that need desiccant, contact us and we'll suggest a suitable option for your space.

How do I know which size to buy?

The right capacity depends on the space, how damp it is, how it's used and your local climate — not floor area alone. Use the free size calculator for a starting point, or send us the details on WhatsApp and our team will recommend a model within one working day.
